There are a lot of different digital cameras on the market right now, which makes choosing the best one a lot more difficult. The worst thing is that now everybody has stopped focusing on how many megapixels the camera has then the companies have started to try and diversify their products by offering ever more complex features that they think will help you take better pictures. The problem with that is it is a lot more difficult to compare features side by side than it is with the physical specifications like the amount of zoom and the amount of megapixels the camera has.
Now let’s take a look at what I think are the four most important features you should be looking for:
Metal case: A metal case used to be just the reserve of the expensive cameras, however it is a lot more common place now. The best thing about a metal case is how much more durable it makes it, particularly if you drop it. Let’s not forget a metal case also makes the camera look so much more professional, although if you get a bright pink digital camera then that does kind of ruin the effect.
Anti-motion blur: You have to make sure every camera you buy has this feature. When you are having fun and messing around then your hand might not be too steady when you take the picture, but the last thing you want is to get back home and find out the pictures are a blurry unrecognizable mess. This feature helps to stabilize the picture even when your hand is moving around. It isn’t perfect, it won’t compensate if you are jumping around with the camera in your hand, but it really helps you to void taking blurred photos.
video: Some people like to carry around a lot of gear with them when they are on holiday, but I think that is a hassle so I don’t want to have one gadget to take pictures and another to capture video. You will find a lot of digital cameras nowadays though have the ability to record video as well. Sure for the conneiseuur then it probably won’t be good enough because there is only a very small microphone on the camera, but I was surprised by how good the video was for such a small device.
Intelligent Automatic Mode: There are a lot of different modes and settings on a camera now and some people seem to love messing around with those to tweak things and get the best picture possible. But for the rest of us then it is just a major headache and I am always worried I will have it on completely the wrong settings and ruin the shot! That is why an auto mode is essential and the latest auto modes are even more intelligent, they recognize the type of scene you are taking, the lighting conditions, if people are present in the shot and much more, and then is adjusts all the settings for you to help you take the best shot. That means you can leave the camera to do all the hard work and you can just concentrate on having fun and taking pictures!
