dslr memory card

Do I need to spend $350(+) on a DSLR memory card for piece of mind?
I’m interested in purchasing the Canon – EOS 7D 18.0-Megapixel Digital SLR camera and wanted to know if it’s necessary to spend that much on a card. I went on a trip this last summer with a point and shoot and hated running out of memory. But nearly $400 just seems insane for a memory card. Does it really make a difference, or can I just buy a cheaper 1 for like $130 for the DSLR? I mean, there’s no difference in the quality of the memory, right?
For piece of mind, never put all your images on one memory card, ever
I shoot fashion, editorial and sports.
The largest memory card I own are four 8 gb cards. Most of the memory cards are 4 gb or 2 gb capacity and I have a total of 21 cards I carry all the time. Two are in my cameras and the rest are in my camera backpack. I NEVER run out of some place to put my image files
The last 8 gb card I bought cost $18 and of course 4 gb and 2 gb cards are much less money
