Easy Ways to Do Repairs on Wooden jewelry Boxes

Many of you would love to keep your jewelry boxes even if they seem to be ruined. They’re considered treasures especially if they family heirlooms. Wooden jewelry boxes require extra care if you wish to maintain how they look.

If the box fell accidentally and got chipped or the wood is quite old with strong musty molds you will need to get a wooden reaper and fix it with tacks. Use the right size of tacks or else the opposite side will look uneven. Get the type of tacks with threaded ends because they are more durable.

Set the reaper on the chipped portion and drive the tacks exactly according to the gaps. After tacking the chipped areas of the box, make sure you scrape the interior for other chipped portions; use a universal surface filler to fill in the gaps. Put in on the chipped portions and evenly spread the paste on all sides of the area. This paste has three excellent qualities.

It dries quickly, is anti-corrosive and it’s easy to apply. It’s cream-colored and has to be applied and allowed to dry for a few minutes. For a smoother finish, apply a nice coat of varnish after the cream dries.

If your jewelry box has a cracked mirror, you need to remove every piece of glass carefully. For safety measure, take the box out of the house, spread a sheet of newspaper and shake out the bits of mirror. If they’re difficult to remove, you can use a blunt knife to lift off the broken shards. Ensure that the broken glass is disposed properly.

Next, sand the side of the box where the mirror is to be placed. This provides the mirror a strong grip when it’s stuck and to prevent it from sliding. Properly measure the mirror to get the right size from a local hardware store.

buy a glue specifically for glass and evenly spread over the back of the mirror. Properly position the mirror and stick it inside the jewelry box. Allow the glue to dry and in a few minutes you’ll have a perfectly restored jewelry box. When repairing a torn lining in a corner of the box, you can use a special adhesive.

You can repair it yourself if the damage is minimal. But if it’s torn and damaged, you need to replace the lining. Replacing the lining is quite easy; you can follow these simple steps. Measure the area where you’ll place the lining and cut the cloth according to the correct measurements. Spread ample amount of glue in the interiors and carefully place the linings and make folds in the corners for a clean finish.

As you stick the cloth, make sure to press and tug on the sides in order to get a neat finish. When you’re repairing a broken latch, it’s advisable to buy a new one and have it replaced. You can choose from a variety of latches. A simple lock is elegant and exudes an exotic look; choose the ones with silver or gold coating. Using a few screws and a screwdriver, lightly attach the latch on the box but don’t apply too much pressure as the wood may break.

Fixing your jewelry box by yourself is quite easy if you know how to do it the proper way. With these simple tips and instructions you’ll be able to restore the original charm of your jewelry box.
