Canon MG8220 All-In-One Printer

today, we’ll be taking a look at the flagship Canon MG8220 Wireless Photo All-in-One. It offers many of the same features we first saw on the Pixma MG8120: identical print speeds and print resolution, Intelligent Touch system with 3.5-inch LCD, two-way paper feeding, automatic duplexing and built-in wireless connectivity.

The printer provides multiple connectivity options to make it easy to print any time. In addition to a standard USB connection, the printer has both Ethernet (wired) and Wi-Fi (wireless) connectivity so you can share the printer with the other computers on the network and so you can place the printer off your desktop in a more convenient location. With the pervasiveness of Smartphones and internet-enabled devices the demand for printing on the go is higher than ever. The Canon PIXMA MG8220 can print directly from many mobile devices including the Iphone, Ipad, iPod Touch, and Android-based devices.

Less common options include both Photo Copy and Advanced Photo copy commands on the front panel that let you print high-quality copies of photographic prints. (There’s also a standard Copy command for documents.) The front panel even offers an Online Album Print option, with choices for Canon Image Gateway and Picasa web Albums. And as you would probably expect, you can preview photos on the printer’s 3.5-inch LCD before printing.

When I reviewed the Pixma MG6220, I suggested that if it offered just a little more, it could be an Editors’ Choice. The Canon Pixma MG8220 offers all the same features plus that little bit more in the form of scanning film as well as printing directly from film. If you don’t need to deal with slides or strips of film, by all means save a few dollars and choose the Pixma MG6220 or another printer instead. But if you need to scan film, the Canon Pixma MG8220 is both the clear choice and our new Editors’ Choice for a full-function home photo lab.
